(a) A Cricket Match
(b) My Aim in Life
(c) Importance of Sports
(d) Evils of Dowry
(e) A Visit to a place of Historical Importance?
Answer:
(a) A Cricket Match : A Cricket math is both educative and interesting. I am very fond of cricket. I saw a cricket match only last Sunday. It was played between our school and D. A. V. School Danapur. We were the first to open the innings. We made 150 runs. Our captain was the most successful batsman. He scored 80 runs. The successful bowler of the rival team was Rajesh. He took 5 wickets. The rival team could score only 120 runs. They lost their first four wickets for twenty runs. He pushed our bowlers. Our fast bowler Ravi was very’ successful). He took eight wickets for 90 runs. We won the match. It was a great day for us.

(b) My Aim in life: Everybody has a certain ambition in his life. A life without an ambition is like a ship without a rudder. People have different ambitions in their lives. My aim in life is to become a lecturer. There are many reasons for adopting this profession. After passing my B.A. I well do my post graduation in English. I will specialize in this subject.

A teacher is a nation builder. He guides his students through his personality. It is a very noble profession even. He turns the students, to become a useful citizen of a good country. He feels young in the company of his students. He always learns and accumulates knowl-edge. It is he who fills worth in his students. May God fulfil my dream !

(c) Importance of Sports: Games and sports have an important place in our life. They give both pleasure and profit. They are the best recreation and the best from of exercise. They keep us fit, active and cheerful. Games are our good teachers as well. They teach us many usefual lessons. They develop in us the qualities of fair-play, team-spirit and discipline. They teach us to work and enjoy together, for no game can be played alone. While playing the games we have to follow the rules strictly. These days our country needs good players. Our record in games has been far from good so far. So in the interest of our ownselves as well as for our country we should understand the value of games. This is why I like sports.

Bihar Board 12th English 100 Marks Model Question Paper 2

(d) Evils of Dowry : Ours is a male dominated society. Woman has been relegated to a secondary place of marginal importance in the family. She has been reduced to a thing, not a human being. The recent spate in the cases of bride burning exposes the hollowness of our social and cultural system. The torture of married women and cases of bride burning is so rampant in lower middle class urban families. The birth of a female child is still considered to be a burden on the parents. Giving a young girl in marriage has never been an easy thing. It is a very long practice to give a hefty dowry to the bridegroom and his parents so that they may give a respectable place to the bride in the family.

Beauty, good features, culture and qualification may be important but a fat dowry overweighs all thse considerations. Even in the modern world where women are marching ahead in all walks of life, the evil practice of the dowry system continues. The greedy inlaws settle the amount of dowry before fixing the date of marriage. Naked materialism and consumerism have only whetted the appetite of the dowry seekers.

The dowry amount depends upon the social and economic status of the prospective bridegrooms. Demand for Marutis, Hero-Honda motor – bikes, music systems, V.C.R. and costly furniture and utensils is grow¬ing in the marriage market. But still the greed of dowry seekers remains unsatiated. Bride-burning is not a rare phenomenon in India. The
Anti-Dowry Act, 1976 must be given more teeth for eradicating this social stigma. The dowry seekers should be socially boycotted and given exemplary punishments. The public and voluntary organisations should come forward to root out his evil practice from our society.

(e) A Visit to a place of Historical Importance : A visit to a historical place is both interesting and educative. Last year I had a chance to go to Agra. My uncle lives there. One day we went to see the Taj. I had already read about this wonder of the world in the history book. I was very anxious to have a look at it. When we were face to face with this monument, I stood spell-bound. I was surprised to see the beauty of the Taj. It reminded me of the past glory of India. It appeared to me like a dream in marble. I was surprise to see the Mughal art. The marble work in the hall is worth-seeing. We enjoyed the peace and beauty around. I can never forget the memory of the Taj.

When the child born in seven days old, a new dress for the child and a new sari for the mother are brought. She is looked after by the whole family. This gives the mother a sense of security and fearlessness.

The modern technology has, no doubt, reduced the mortality of women during child birth but it has also deprived them of the important experience of child birth. They belong to different religions and speak different languages but idealism permeats the life of every Indian. They have clean habits and like simple food. Purity is observed in every sphere of life.

The elders are respected and the weak and disabled in the family are well looked after. People are getting politically consious and the country’s political leadership is selfless and dedicated to the welfare of people. Write the summary of any one of the prose
(a) How Free is the Press
(b) Bharat is My Home
Answer:
(a) How free is the Press : Without a free there can be no free people is a things that all free people take for granted. We need to discuss it nor will we at this moment discuss the restrictions placed upon the press in time of war. At such times all liberties have to be restricted. Free people must see to it that when peace come full freedom is restored. In the meantime, it may be wholesome to consider what that freedom is, and how far it is truly desirable.

It may turn out to be no freedom at all, or even a more freedom to tyrannies. For tyranny in fact, the uncontrolled freedom of one man, or one gang, is to impose, its will on the world. When we speak of the freedom of the press, we usually mean freedom in a very technical and resticted sense-namely-freedom from direction or censorship by the government. In this respect, the British press is under ordinary conditions, singularly free.

If can attack the policy and political character of minister, interfere in the delicate machinery of foreign diplomacy, conduct campaign to subject the constitution, incite citizens to discontent and rebellion, expose scandals and foment grievances. With almost perfect liberty on occasion, it can become a weapon to coerce the governemt to conform to what is aserts to be the will of the people.

So far, this is all to be good, occasionally this freedom may, produce disastrous hesitations and inconsistencies in public policy or tend to hamper the swift execution of emergency measures, but generally speaking it works to secure and sustain that central doctrine of ‘Democracy’ as we understand it-that the stat is not the master but the servant of the people.

The press as a whole, and in technical and restricted sense, is thus pretty free in a peaceful Britian. There is no shade of political opinion that does not somehow contrive to express itself. But is we go on to imagine that any particular organ of the press enjoys the larger liberty of being a forum of public opinion, we are gravely mistaken.

Every newspaper is engaged to its own set of overloads and in its turn, like the unmerciful servant, exercises a powerful bondage upon its readers and one the public generally tended. We may say that the heaviest restriction upon the freedom of public opinion is not the unofficial censorship of the press but the censorship by a press which exists not so much to express opinion as to manufacture it.
